2021 Word of the Year

Hey y’all! How you doing? How’s your mom and them?

I’m a little late posting my goals for the new year. As I’ve mentioned before, my birthday is two weeks after New Year’s Day so I feel like I get sort of a 14 day trial period of the new year before I commit to fully making any changes. Last year, I set some pretty lofty goals and I didn’t meet them all. 2020 ended up not being the best year to be one’s best self in some ways. But I’m blessed to be here for another try.

This year, I set my goals a little differently and adopted a word of the year. My word was inspired by a few different things. Back in the fall, my son and I started drawing a lot together. He asked me one day to draw an animal for him and using some clip art images from Google as my guide. I obliged. Apparently, he thought I did okay because he continued to ask me to draw things for him. As a kid, I LOVED to draw but it had been a long, long time since I’d drawn anything. I’m not very good at it but I enjoy it and it’s been something fun for us to do together.

I’ve also dabbled in scrapbooking and creative planning for awhile and I picked back up with those hobbies a bit. My friend Candace gifted me some nice markers for Christmas and said something like “Maybe 2021 will be all about art and creating.” And I thought, hmm….it got my wheels turning.

So I chose CREATE as my word for 2021.

Create a healthier lifestyle for myself and my family.

Create an organized and clean living space.

Create more content for my blog and build community around it.

Create stronger relationships with those I cherish.

Create things that make me happy like scrapbooks, planners and other crafts.

Create yummy food.

Enjoy and support the creations of others. Books, music, scripted television and movies. A nice meal or cup of coffee from a local business.

This year’s goals may seem vague compared to last year’s list. And maybe they are. Maybe 2020 taught us that we need to use a pencil and not a pen when writing our stories. Life is out there, let’s create it to be what we want it to be.

  1. I love this approach: pick a theme and find creative ways to focus on that concept throughout the year! Very inspiring!! 💜
