What’s Up Wednesday

My favorite-est blogger Sheaffer Told Me To hosts a monthly What’s Up Wednesday link-up that I plan to join soon. This is kind of a trial run for me. Let me know what you think!

What I’m Eating

With Summer approaching, I’ve been in a salad mode. I made some jar salads recently and even my super picky husband enjoyed them. In fact, he asked me to make them again this week!

We’ve been trying to eat better overall and enjoyed a healthier Memorial Day cookout than we have in the past.

But it’s not all vegetables. I’ve also been enjoying the BEST candy in the world! It’s name says it all.

What I’m Looking Forward To

Summer! My workplace started our four day week summer schedule a couple of weeks ago so I’m ready for long weekends, hanging on the deck, splashing in the pool and all the ice cream.

What I’m Reading

I read SO much last year. Maybe I burned myself out but I just couldn’t get the reading mojo going at the start of this year. My library card expired (that’s a thing now?) and so I couldn’t log into the Libby app when a couple of books I’d reserved became available. A few weeks ago, maybe with Summer approaching, I felt the reading bug again so I called to renew my card. I got back in the groove with JoJo Moyes’ Still Me, the final book in her Me Before You series. It’s been a hot minute since I read Me Before You but I read the second entry After You late last year and I have to say that I think Still Me might have been my favorite of the three.

I decided to keep the Moyes groove going and just finished up One Plus One. On Memorial Day, I started Troubles in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand. No one does “beach reads” like Hilderbrand and Troubles finishes up her “Paradise” series.

What I’m Listening To

Lately, I’ve been listening to a couple of awesome true crime podcasts: True Crime Obsessed and True Crime and Cocktails. Both of these are entertaining but they are very different.

Obsessed reviews and discusses true crime documentaries. The hosts are hilarious (it seems wrong to say that about crime discussions) and they often voice some of the same thoughts I’ve had about the cases. They don’t do any internet investigating beyond the documentaries and they don’t offer their own theories. If you enjoy the true crime docs on ID or Netflix and don’t have armchair detective friends to discuss them with, this is your show!

Cocktails is a more in-depth discussion of the crimes. It’s co-hosted by actress Lauren Ash (NBC’s Superstore) but it’s her cousin, Christy Oxborrow who really brings the tea to the discussions. Christy does a ton of research and drops it all in “case files” on the podcast’s website.

Warning: Both of these use adult language so definitely plug in your ear buds or listen when not around little people or those offended by R rated language.

What I’m Watching

Earlier in the Spring, my husband and I started re-watching In The Heat of the Night. This was a show that I loved as a young teenager and have watched off and on over the years in its syndicated run. The show was pretty groundbreaking at the time for its handling of social issues. Some of it hasn’t aged well, it steps on my feminist toes at times, but some of it remains relevant today. We are almost finished with the last season and I have to say I will miss our trips to Sparta, Mississippi.

I’m always late to the party and Great British Bake Off is no exception. Now I get everyone’s obsession! I LOVE this show. The contestants are so kind to each other, the Tent is so peaceful, and the food looks spectacular. I started with the later seasons and went backwards so I haven’t gotten to the Mary Berry seasons yet. I do adore Paul and Prue though and I have an unexplained crush on Noel Fielding that we won’t speak of.

What I’m Wearing

I’ve really gotten into casual dresses for Summer wear. Even last summer when I was working from home, I chose a dress many days. They are comfortable and cool and I just enjoy them. I bought this one last year-a Shaeffer recommendation!-from Amazon. I was skeptical to try Amazon clothing but I decided to take the plunge. I liked it very much. The arm holes are a little big so I do wear a jacket with it if I wear it to the office. Earlier in spring, I bought a second dress from Amazon, this one is longer. The arm holes are smaller so I’m comfortable wearing it as is. It is quite long. I’m a lengthy gal so it works for me but keep that in mind.

What I’m Working On

I have some new recipe posts coming up soon for Olive Nut Spread and Honey Beer Bread. I also have a TON of recipes that I want to get on here. I recently went through my mom’s recipe box for some of her amazing dessert recipes that made my childhood so sweet 🙂

And that’s what’s up with me these days! Tell me something fun that you ‘ve got going on!
