Slow Cooker Country Style Ribs

Did you know that country style ribs aren’t ribs at all? Honestly, I did NOT know this until recently. They are actually cut from the pork shoulder-the same area as a Boston butt (which isn’t from the butt). Pork is just full of misnomers, huh?

Country style ribs are thick and meaty and perfect for the low and slow cooking of a slow cooker. My mom always made them in the oven, and I can remember requesting them for my birthday meal more than once. I use the homemade sauce that she made but you can use your own recipe or favorite bottled sauce.

Although you can cook these on high in your slow cooker, I recommend using the low setting if you can. I feel like they get more tender.

Let’s get started!

First, give your ribs a look over and cut off any excessive fatty areas. These were perfect so they were ready for a good dash of salt and pepper.

Next, nestle them in your slow cooker. You can stack them if you have a large batch.

I add a splash of water to the cooker just to keep the meat moist.

Now you’re ready to pour your barbeque sauce on top.

Put the lid on and cook on low for 8 hours, or high for 4 hours. Again, I recommend low.

You’ll be treated to some tender and delicious pork!

Here’s my sauce recipe:

1/2 cup ketchup

1 tbsp vinegar

3 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp chili powder

Salt and pepper to taste, thin with water for desired consistency.

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do.

From the heart and from the holler,

Minda
